Dr. Rod Raehsler, social sciences professor and Honors Program director at Clarion University, has been commended for his voluntary service to the Fulbright Program. He was a member of the National Screening Committee that reviewed and rated applications for Fulbright U.S. Student Program’s 2021-22 award cycle. Raehsler, whose academic expertise is in British economic history, reviewed applications to universities in the United Kingdom.
Daniel Kramer, president of the Fulbright U.S. Student Program, thanked Raehsler on behalf of the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board and the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. He cited Raehsler's "major role in assuring that the finest candidates will be represented in our program next year."
"The time and effort you and your colleagues spent reading and rating applications prior to the panel, and your attendance at the virtual meeting, is considerable and appreciated, especially during this busy year," Kramer wrote. "This in-kind contribution of the U.S. academic community to the Fulbright Program is recognized each year in the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs' request for funding from the U.S. Congress and is a significant factor in the sustainability of the program."
Kramer noted that Raehsler's experience as a National Screening Committee member can benefit future Fulbright applicants from Clarion University.
"Now that I have seen the selection process up front, I am going to use what I learned to push and to help Clarion students submit applications," Raehsler said.
Raehsler's previous experience with the Fulbright Program includes identifying and recommending a Clarion Honors Program student who successfully obtained a Fulbright Scholarship. Raehsler was set to go on his own Fulbright experience in 1996, but he delayed the arrangement due to the birth of his son.
